Interview Questions - Tell me about yourself ?
Q1. Tell me about yourself ?
One of the most commonly asked questions at interviews. It always amazes me how unprepared people are for this one. It is difficult to prepare for every possible question that may come up in an interview but boy there are some obvious ones like this one that you really should be nailing. It is your best opportunity to sell yourself and tie your skill set to the job you are being interviewed for.
I usually start by describing what type of person I am. For example I have been working as an accountant for 5 years now. I have a real head for figures it is something that I enjoy. I love working as an auditor as getting stuck into projects and working at a detailed level is really something I get a kick out of.
I started as a junior after finishing college but within 3 years I was leading my own audit team. I am a real people person and love working in a team. I manage a team of 5 people and I love it as it gives me the chance to really get to know my team and to help and mentor them as we complete our daily tasks. At the weekends I enjoy getting outdoors and I coach the under 12's girls football team on Sundays.
Something like this indicates that you have an eye for detail but that you are a real team player also and that you are easy to work for and get on with people. Obviously this answer needs to be tailored for the specifics of the job you are applying for. Don't be afraid to throw in a little about what you enjoy doing outside of office hours just keep it short.
